Grand TUTR and Fall Ball

October 26, 2018 to October 28, 2018
Seagirt

Victoria, BC

Autocrat: Isabella da Firenze

At harvest's end, when the cold rains come
when the Day of the Dead approaches:
woodsmoke rises, red leaves fall
and sunlight the autumn poaches:

In wild Tir Righ where the storm winds call
On Seagirt's illustrious shores,
Where the halls and the woods of legend stand,
through St. Giles' open doors:

Do the sages and heroes of the Known Worlde meet,
gathered at great roundtables,
to share their knowledge and enrich their minds...and hearts
With the study and practice of sciences and arts
many and diverse:
Fibre and textiles, performance and dance,
scribal, and combat, and discourses varied and plentiful.

Hence do we call all scholars, great and small, young and old:
those first seeking the spice of knowledge, and those seasoned with experience,
and all manner between...
to the Island TUTR and Fall Ball in Seagirt, on the weekend of October 26-28.

That's right! Seagirt is hosting an extensive educational event this coming October.

We will be welcoming teachers from all over An Tir, who bring with them years of experience in a range of classes, including (but not limited to): marshal activities, scribal, dance, fiber and textiles, the University of Tir Righ NOVUS track, and a variety of discourses and lectures.

On Friday evening we will be hosting a meet and greet casual evening like you would find at an academic conference.

Saturday and Sunday will include classes for as long as we can host them.

Saturday evening will end with a grand ball and dances that you can learn during the day.

If you are interested in teaching or otherwise volunteering at this event, please feel free to contact me (Isabella da Firenze, aka Jen Peters) either on Facebook (Facbeook event here), or over email at isabelladafirenze@gmail.com. There are some restrictions as to facilities, but lecture halls with projectors/electricity are plentiful.

Hotels:

There are a few different options for hotels at this event, should you be coming in from out of town.

1) Air BnB - There aren't many mainstream hotels near the site itself, but there are plenty of Air BnB's within the immediate area. Just go to airbnb.ca and search for 3800 Finnerty Road (UVic's address) to find something within your price range. Works great if you team up with others to share the cost and you likely can get more space than a hotel room.

2) Accent Inn - We've secured a block of rooms at the Accent Inn in Victoria. They are $99 a night, plus tax, and include continental breakfast. For individual reservations, call 1-800-663-0298 or hotel direct 1-250-475-7500 and quote GROUP ID 5554681 "the Barony of Seagirt." All reservations MUST be made prior to the release date of October 5.

3) Craigdarroch Guest House - Since it's the middle of the school year, UVic doesn't have dorm rooms available, but they do have a very limited selection of guest rooms for $122 a night, plus tax, call or email for questions/reservations:
Telephone: 250-721-8395
Email: bookings@uvic.ca

There are also additional hotels in the Victoria area, but we have not secured any other blocks of rooms at this time.

Site fee is $25 with a $5 discount for members, students, and seniors.

Yes, you read correctly, there is going to be a KEYNOTE ADDRESS by His Grace Duke Styrkarr on Saturday morning. The topic is Scholarship in the SCA. More on this soon.

Also on Friday night we are featuring the BARDS! If you're not a bard, no worries, feel free to hang out, listen, or go and chat in the other rooms. More information available soon.

FOOD:

We're working on there being options available for lunch at the event, as there is very little available on campus. More on this soon, I hope (I WELCOME IDEAS/OFFERS OF ASSISTANCE)

Dinner on Saturday night will be a potluck! There are outlets aplenty for plugging in crockpots for the day, but no refrigeration on site.

CLASSES:

Pre-registration will be available SOON! Until then, please enjoy this list of the classes that will be available. The times are also listed and not subject to change (except in some circumstances - teachers, if there's a problem with your schedule, please let me know so I can adjust ASAP. This was a labour of MONTHS of work, and is equitable to Tetris on Hard Mode, so it's not easily changed). Apologies for 24-hour time, it was the easiest way to avoid misunderstandings.

It will be for the site if the site can be found, but this again is not always the case, and if the site is some distance from the branch then the weather may be different.
