Yule Feast in Borealis

Edmonton, AB

December 13, 2014

The Barony of Borealis invites our friends and neighbours to celebrate mid-winter at Yule Feast, Saturday December 13. The day's events are to include the Borealis Bardic Championship, games & dance, activities & classes, and, best of all, the company of friends, both old and new.

Check back for updates on the wonderful events being planned!

Borealis Bardic Championship:
The tournament is open to all residents of Borealis and to active Borealis Sergeants residing outside of its borders.
All those wishing to vie for champion must submit to the following criteria for entry:

  • Each participant is to present Their Excellency’s with a statement or prepared letter of intent.
  • Minimum 2 performance pieces in Song, Story, Poem, Instrumental, Theatrical, Puppetry, Magic, Dance or any other performance art. Performers are not limited to the same style for each piece they are performing.
  • Limitation regarding “bawdy” songs as this is a family event.
  • Minimum 1 Documentable piece; Pre 1700 AD or Neo-Historical (SCA living History) Other piece(s) of Bards choice.
  • Have a paid membership in the SCA and maintain the same during their tenure as a Champion of Borealis.
  • The successful champion will arrange a tournament for a Bardic War Point for Winter War.
  • The successful champion will in one years’ time arrange a competition to find their successor.

Judging rubric for competition criteria will be available for review on the Borealis webpage under Activites-Bards

The tournament will be held from 1pm to 4pm.

The Borealis Cooking Guild is looking forward to providing our hospitality coordinating this year's glorious feast.

Here is the tentative menu for the feast – subject to change and whim of the cooks

- Appetizer
Saffron Bread
Garlic soft cheese
Leek Soup
Chorizo sausages

-1st course

Armored chicken legs
Pepper sauce
Fried spinach with pomegranate
Chickpeas and rice

- 2nd course
