The Seneschalate
The seneschal is the legal representative of a branch. Seneschals sign all contracts, make sure
that things are done pursuant to the restrictions of all modern laws, corpora and kingdom law,
work with the chatelaines to handle all public relations, and normally conduct the business
meetings/curia. The seneschals coordinate the branch officers.
The Kingdom Seneschal
The Kingdom Seneschal is the Chief Administrative Officer of the Crown and also serves as
the principal legal representative of the Society for Creative Anachronism within the
Kingdom of An Tir. He or she serves as risk manager for the Kingdom and helps to
protect the Society's legal interests and reputation. This person reviews all handbooks
and manuals prepared by Kingdom Officers to make sure that the Society's legal interests
are protected and works closely with the Board of Directors and Corporate Officers. The
Kingdom Seneschal also reviews the Kingdom Laws to make sure that they comply with modern
laws, Corpora and the other governing documents. This officer also is a member of the Council
of the Exchequer, is responsible for setting calendar policy, solicits bids for all Crown
events and has ultimate responsibility for planning and carrying out Kingdom level events.
The Kingdom Seneschal coordinates the formal recognition of new branches by the Crown and
administers the branches through the Seneschals.
Deputies of the Kingdom Seneschal:
- Kingdom Calendar
- a Lesser Office of State - See Lesser Offices Below
- Incipient Branch Deputy
- The Incipient Branch Deputy is responsible for the formation and development of new branches in
An Tir. The Incipient Branch Deputy acts as a resource for people wishing to form new branches,
aids the Kingdom Seneschal in ensuring that proposed branches meet the requirements and monitors the
progress of incipient branches in order to assist them in gaining official status.
- Principality and Regional Seneschals
- The Principality and Regional Seneschals serve as a bridge between the local branch seneschals
and the Kingdom Seneschal. Because they are closer to the branches they are in a good position to
act as a resource and support to the branch seneschal. These mid-level seneschals work to promote
the area that they are responsible for and the branches within it.
Principality Seneschals review their Principality's laws to make sure that they comply with modern
laws, Corpora, Kingdom Law and the other governing documents.
- Branch Seneschals
- Branch Seneschals are responsible for the coordination of the Society activities in their branch.
However they do not supervise the other officers, merely aid their cooperative efforts. Branch
seneschals hold vacant offices on a temporary basis until they can be filled and are responsible
for filling the reports for those vacant offices.
