Greetings unto great Web minds of our great Kingdom!
The weekend is here and we have all hopefully had a bit of a good food, good friends and family over, fun, and cheer. Some of us are detangling last year’s mess of strings of lights (me), unpacking the yule décor of all kinds, and some of us are trying to convince our kiddos that they need to do some decorating.
I wanted to drop a line and simply thank all of you for the great work you have been doing throughout the year. Thank you for being here. Thank you for taking care of your jobs. Thank you for sending in your reports. Thank you for saying hi at events. Thank you for being the geeks you are. I have only thanks to give for there are so many of you that it would literally kill me to make that many pairs of gloves.
I do make this offer, that if you see me at an event please come and introduce yourselves and if either you or I has a bit of felt with us I will help you make one mitten. (The pattern is based off of a period example that I used to make for a children’s class.) You can take it home and make your pattern off it and make a pair for yourself.
I will carry a pattern with me at all times just for you guys cause you all rule!!
Molte grazie a tutti i miei amici,
Baronessa Chiara Francesca Arianna d’Onofrio

P.S. I will let you all know once I get confirmation. I am hoping to have a meeting of the great Web minds of our great Kingdom at the next Coronation.

This has been amended as of May 27, 2012 to:
“Please do not publish links to any social media event invites in our official newsletters.”
- An Tir Chronicler Dena Morford
Greetings Fellow WebMinsters,
The following is an email we recieved this morning about Social Media links. If you have any questions please forward them to myself and our Kingdom Chronicler so that we can form an FAQ.
From: An Tir Chronicler Dena Morford [mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org]

Subject: From the society chronicler about social media links.
I received word this morning from the society chronicler about information on social media sites. I sent this out this morning to the An Tir chroniclers.
Greetings fellow Chroniclers,
The use of social media sites such as Facebook has been discussed at corporate. As of right now the topic is “under discussion” As a result, we have been asked to please refrain from using any links or references to Facebook or any other social media site on newsletters or ANY published material. This includes Local branch and kingdom websites. If you have a link on website, please remove them. I would like to have all links and referenced removed by the 28th in the Kingdom. This is for our own protection. Please pass the word on and help me by reporting back when your branch has complied.
This may be temporary. When corporate completes this discussion and comes to a permanent ruling I will let everyone know if we can use these social sites again.

From our Kingdom Seneschal:
The SCA Board of Directors has determined that social media websites may not be used for ‘official’ SCA business.
What does this mean?
While we do not discourage the use of Facebook and such to get the word out or for private group forums, it cannot be the official medium of any SCA entity (branches, guilds etc). Any social media site being used to enhance the SCA activities should include a disclaimer stating that these pages, lists etc are NOT official and do not reflect SCA policies.
The most important aspect is that, as per the Calendar Policy, for events to be considered official they must be registered with the branch seneschal AND published in the branches official media whether a website or a newsletter. This includes level 4 events which are meetings and practices. Failure to meet this criteria (for example, a practice only published on Facebook) results in the activity not being sanctioned by the SCA and the liability insurance not covering that activity.
With regards to websites, it is also recommended that official branch websites be hosted on one of the existing servers (e.g antir.sca.org tirrigh.org). This prevents an individual web officer from taking his website and going home if he becomes disgruntled with a local branch leaving the branch without their website. This has happened on multiple occasions in the past year. The associated webteams have assured me that there is plenty of existing space to do this. SO if your branch site is a Facebook site, you need to have that changed asap.
Hosting these sites on the official servers means a stable platform and a reliable back-up.

A new system for keeping track of our officers has been implemented by Web Team member Jean Louis de Chambertin, OL, OP.
Future implementations will have warrent dates entered and when your term is complete your information will drop off and the new officer will be entered.
This takes care of several things.
- Keeping officer listings off the Newsletter
- Keeping officer listings up to date.
This will hopefully be a positive thing for all of us.
Comments are welcome.
