Welcome from the Media Officer
This site is designed to give the Seneschals and general populace of An Tir useful information on the Office of Media Relations: why it was created, what purpose it serves, and what services it can render.
The Office of Media Relations is responsible for assisting local and regional groups in presenting factual information and a positive image to any organized news media group as defined in the Society Seneschal’s “Media Relations and External Publicity” Policy (Appendix 1, Section 1). The information presented should be written, designed, and produced in a manner consistent with efforts commonly received by the media from other large, not-for-profit organizations.
Use the links at the top of this page to find the answers to any questions you may have concerning the Office of Media Relations and its function within the Society for Creative Anachronism, Inc.
The Society Media Officer’s philosophy and mine are identical: we want to be as welcoming as possible when dealing with local media. Many of you have cordial, ongoing relations with your neighbourhood media representatives, and our goal is to facilitate these relationships. Hence, the advice contained in these pages is not to place roadblocks in your path to gaining positive media coverage, but to polish your approach and ensure that the information you pass on meets their needs for a good story and our needs to represent our wonderful game as a wholesome, fun, and welcoming activity.
As this site evolves, there may be issues you feel need coverage, or ideas that you’d like to pass on. The field of media reporting is one of the fastest-changing industries out there, and I welcome your help in staying on top of it.
Yours in service,
Julia Sempronia, GdS, JdL
Media Relations Officer
